We have chosen to focus on oil filled radiators among the many different types of portable type heaters you may be considering.
The reason we have done this is because oil filled radiator heaters offer a safe and silent operation. The oil used to convey the heat is safely sealed inside the radiator coils.
Since the oil is only warmed with the oil filled radiator heaters you never have to worry about it burning. In addition, it never needs to be replaced or refilled.
This makes the choice of oil filled radiators an efficient decision.
Parents love these oil filled radiator heaters because they have safety covers that prevent children and pets from touching the
heating elements that radiate the warmth. Compared to other types of heaters they have a lower surface
temperature, and because of the large surface area of the heater they heat the room just as fast.
Oil Filled Radiator Heater
Most people use an oil filled radiator heater for quick spot heat. Uses aren’t just for the flat as many people also use them at the workplace.
Portable, compact and easy to move they are perfect to take the chill out of a bedroom or even the offices.
This smart portable oil filled radiator heater will warm an area of up to 150 square feet with ease and uniform heat distribution. No more cold spots!
No matter where they are used they universally weigh little and use relatively little power to run.
In fact, the oil filled radiator heater is specifically made to fit unobtrusively beneath a desk or table. Combine this with their virtual silent operation and nobody will notice it’s presence.
If you use the oil filled radiator heater at work even your tech department will not have any complaints as they can safely be plugged into the same power strip as your computer or other electronics.
Many an admin has placed these oil filled radiators under their desk or in their cube to get that extra heat they want. Particularly if the boss likes to keep it so cold you can see the frost on your breath.
Why heat the whole flat or house to a nice and toasty warmth when you really only need that extra warmth in the room you spend most of your time. You can save money and still be warm.
And, who doesn’t want safety and no need to fuss and maintain your oil filled radiators. These electric oil filled radiators have a tip over safety switch and an overheat auto shutoff switch.
Unlike other types of portable heaters, if it does tip over you don’t have to worry about the extreme heat from the heating element because it is safely sealed inside the unit.
The only maintenance you need to do is give it a quick dust over once and awhile if you are so inclined. If not, that’s okay too. Obviously like other electric powered devices you will want to make sure the power cord is in good shape before use.
Convection Heaters
All convection heaters use glowing electronic coils to quickly heat the air that small fans then circulate into the space or room.
Most, but not all, feature a simple thermostat that is designed to keep the air at the desired temperature.
Pros – Quick fast heat direct to the intended spot. Convection heaters are lightweight and extremely portable. They are specifically designed to be portable and convenient. They are great for temporary use during the day in an occupied room or anywhere you need a quick shot of heat for a short time.
Cons – Danger when using a convection heater comes from a higher than normal risk of knocking it over. The heaters red-hot coils then come in contact with flammable materials.
To reduce this risk, convection heaters now come with some type of auto-shutoff system which turns the heater off if it is knocked over or covered. However, those coils still have enough extreme heat to ignite a fire.
If you have little children or pets in the house you may want to consider a safer heating device like the oil filled radiators.
Ceramic Heaters
Ceramic heaters utilize a specially made ceramic disc as their primary heating element. The disk is usually tightly secured in the body of the heater. This greatly reduces the risk of fire if the heater is accidentally knocked over.
As with other portable heaters they do come with an auto-shutoff system. Ceramic heaters are typically very small in size but also usually heavier than other portable heaters. Many people like ceramic heaters that are coupled with a variable fan as they do provide you with a good amount of heat that heat the items in the room and not just the air.
Pros – Compact and safer than convection heaters the ceramic heaters are a perfect choice for a child’s room or an area with pets on the loose. They a much lower risk of fire or damage if knocked over.
Cons – Ceramic heaters are much slower to heat up then convection heaters. Many people also dislike the lack of accurate controls that make it difficult to adjust the temperature as precisely as you can with a convection or oil filled radiators.
